It’s All About Water Fun In The Lowcountry

Living the dream, playing in the waters of the Lowcountry,

Hilton Head Island, Palmetto Bluff and Bluffton

I’m always grateful to live here in the Lowcountry of Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Palmetto Bluff. We are beyond spoiled by the beauty and fun that nature provides us here.  It is very rare that my real estate clients don’t mention some interest in water, whether a desiring a home or vacation property with a water view of the ocean, marsh, river or lagoon or water activities that are important to them such as kayaking, boating, sailing, fishing or swimming.  Maybe you’ve thought about this water lifestyle and realized it could be just the new life you are looking for….

There are so many fabulous communities and areas around HHI that support water interests.

Windmill Harbour

One of the communities that comes to mind quickly is Windmill Harbour with the South Carolina Yacht Club.

“One of only three private locked harbors’ on the east coast, Windmill Harbour Marina on Hilton Head Island, SC offers an unparalleled combination of convenience and security. The marina’s 15.5 acre harbour boasts 258 Hilton Head boat slips, offering many for rent or sale. Transient dockage is available. Our remarkable harbour offers a safe, tide-free haven protected by a lock system directly off the Intracoastal Waterway. The Windmill Harbour Marina lock is 75′ long by 19′ wide,” quoted directly from the website for Windmill Harbour Marina.

This is a beautiful marina to stroll around, the pier is fabulous for dolphin watching and all of the amenities are within comfortable walking distance of the homes. The sunset views are breathtaking from Windmill Harbour whether on your sailboat or from your posh townhome.

Palmetto Bluff

Another community that calls out to be recognized for beauty and activities around the water is Palmetto Bluff.  Palmetto Bluff is along the historical May River in Bluffton which is famous for oysters among other unique contributions. Many of you are like me and will love the combination of serenity and amenities offered here! To me, Palmetto Bluff is ideal Lowcountry living. From the variety of pools, May River cruises, kayaking the interior waterways and river, paddle boarding with the dolphins, great fishing and beaching, plus a full-service drydock and boat storage and launching for quick river access and cruising- there’s absolutely no shortage of water recreation you can enjoy when living in Palmetto Bluff.  Homes and lots range from private acreage on the river to peaceful easy maintenance lots on manicured ponds and inland waterways.

Hampton Lake in Bluffton

Another Bluffton community where water is a central part of the lifestyle is Hampton Lake, featuring freshwater lakes. Instead of the golf course first envisioned for the Hampton Lake area, the developer recognized interest in the water lifestyle thus the golf course became a string of freshwater lakes stocked with a good variety of fish.  This weekend I was showing property there and we stopped by the marina to take a look at the boats of various sizes and styles for the community homeowners. While hanging out, we tossed in some fish food conveniently located in a gumball-type machine – how fun! In a flash, bass and sunfish popped up for a meal, we had a good time watching the free-for-all under our feet.  Hampton Lake allows boats with small engines, kayaks and canoes.  Some of the homes have a dock right in the backyard and owners can drive their boat around to the amenities area for a swim, meal or workout. What a fun time!
